Saturday was the first day of the UK Championship at the Barbican Theatre in York
There were no shocks and even I got all my predictions correct! Not that they were bold choices as all the top seeds won reasonably comfortably.
I suppose the nearest thing to anything like an upset was the Judd Trump v Stephen Maguire match. Trump won 6-4 but, to be fair to Maguire, it could have gone either way. Maguire was less than pleased with what appeared to be a bad slate joint which affect one of his shots. That seemed to rattle him as he looked like taking a 4-3 lead.
Si Jiahui beating Ryan Day was expected but the scoreline of 6-0 certainly wasn’t! Not by me anyway.
The two evening matches went as expected with John Higgins beating Ben Woolaston 6-2 and Shaun Murphy beating Lyu Haotian by the same scoreline.
I had a small wager on a 4 fold but with bets like that I will never retire.
