The last four first-round matches of the UK Championship at the Barbican Theatre in York, took place yesterday.
We all knew something interesting would happen, and we were right! The headline of course being that Ronnie O’Sullivan bowed out to Zhou Yeulong 6-4.
Social media came alive with the “Ronnie’s finished” claims. But there’s simply no way you can write him off just yet. He’s definitely not looking like his old self, but a lack of match practice must be a contributing factor.
In the other afternoon match it was business as usual for Mark Selby who looked pretty comfortable in his 6-2 win over Lei Peifan.
The evening matches produced another story with Elliot Slessor continuing his good form by beating Kyren Wilson 6-4.
In the other match David Lilley didn’t make it easy for Barry Hawkins but the Hawk ran out a 6-4 winner in the end.
The second round starts today
The first half of the second round takes place today and it’s definitely getting interesting. The bookies will have been running around changing prices after O’Sullivan and Wilson were knocked out yesterday.
Today’s matches, courtesy of snooker.org again are –

My predictions –
Mark Williams, Wu Yize, Judd Trump and Mark Selby all to win.
I don’t expect anyone to win very easily. 6-4 at best in any of them and most could well be down to a decider.
