Yesterday saw the second half of Round 2 matches and once again there was a shock!
The afternoon matches produced the most drama with Ding Junhui beating Scott Donaldson in a decider. What a great tournament for Scott and this must give him a bit of confidence in his game.
Then the world champion Zhao Xintong was sensationally beaten by Zhang Anda 6-2 with the inevitable raising of eyebrows on social media due to some of the poor shots played by Zhao. Take nothing away from Zhang though. He will be looking forward to his next match!
In the evening Barry Hawkins showed his class with a 6-0 demolition of Elliot Slessor. I really thought Slessor could have given the Hawk a good game.
Then there was late night decider drama and, for once, it wasn’t John Higgins who won it! Shaun Murphy held himself together to make sure he progressed to Round 3 where he will meet Zhang Anda.
