The UK Championship at the Barbican Theatre in York never fails to produce stories

The results from yesterday, courtesy once again of snooker.org

The afternoon session went pretty much as expected with a comfortable 6-1 win for current World Champion Zhao Xintong over Long Zehuang and Xu Si pushing Ding Junhui before losing out 6-4.

The evening session was very different though.

Scott Donaldson continued with his good form after beating Stuart Bingham 6-5 (Scott was 5-0 down in that match), to qualify for the Barbican. There wouldn’t have been may though that would have confidently predicted a win for Scott over Mark Allen, let alone with a comfortable 6-1 scoreline!

I did think Zhang Anda would push Gary Wilson close, but to beat him in a decider wouldn’t have been on the betting slip of many!

Today’s matches are –

Of course many will be tuning in to see if Ronnie O’Sullivan can get off to a good start. Bet on that one if you dare!

Mark Selby v Lei Peifan is hard to call but I would expect Selby to prevail even if it does go close.

In the evening matches, I think Elliot Slessor can give Kyren Wilson a good game and I don’t think anyone would be very surprised if he did beat him.

No disrespect to David Lilley but I would say Barry Hawkins will be winning this reasonably comfortably.
