The World Women’s Snooker Tour has become even more competitive recently, with new players breaking through to challenge the existing favourites. So who are the big names in female snooker that you need to know about it in 2022?

Reanne Evans is the Most Successful Player

Reanne Evans has dominated the sport in recent years and cemented her place as the greatest female snooker player to ever grace the game. Her career began back in 2002, when she reached the semi-finals of the world championship at the age of 16. At the time of writing, she is the world number one with 12 world titles and a bunch of records to her name.

Reanne’s most successful period was arguably between 2005 and 2014, when she won ten successive world championships. In addition, she was given an MBE a couple of years ago and currently has a two-year invitation that allows her to enter any of the ranking events on the professional snooker tour that is dominated by male players. With her last world title coming in 2019, some critics may be questioning whether she will remain at the top of the sport for much longer.

However, we should remember that Reanne Evans has fought back from difficult times before. Perhaps her most demanding season was in 2010-11, when she was awarded a wild card for the pro tour thanks to her massive success in the women’s game. Yet, she was unable to win any games and suffered 18 consecutive losses. After that, she earned a place on the pro circuit for the 2012-13 season, when she became the first female player to get to the finals stage in a major men’s tournament.

Nutcharut Wongharuthai Won the World Title in 2022

The latest winner of the World Women’s Snooker Championship, Nutcharut Wongharuthai became the first Thai player to win this coveted title. Her 2022 triumph came as she defeated Wendy Jans in a hugely dramatic final that ended 6-5 when Wongharuthai potted the last black, after she came back from 3-5 behind. Incredibly, it was the first time in almost two decades that someone apart from Reanne Evans or Ng On-yee had won the championship.

Her maximum break in 2019 is another reason for thinking that the young Thai player could go on to become a dominant force in female snooker, as she is believed to be the only woman to have achieved a 147 break. Born in 1999, Nutcharut won her first ranking event in Australia in 2019 and is eligible to play in the professional World Snooker Tour next season.

Ng On-yee Has Won Several World Titles

This player from Hong Kong has enjoyed an exciting rivalry with Reanne Evans for more than a decade, as they both won all of the world titles between 2005 and this year. Ng On-yee also took the world number one spot from Evans for a brief period and was the youngest ever IBSF world champion at one stage. She has recorded a highest break of 139 until now.

With the popularity of women’s snooker growing across the globe, it’s no surprise that younger players like Ploychompoo Laokiatphong are starting to appear on the circuit. While the big stars we’ve looked at so far should continue to impress, we can expect to see new players push them hard in the years to come.

Why Is Women’s Snooker Growing So Fast?

The fact that female snooker games haven’t been traditionally shown on television has perhaps stopped it from gaining popularity. However, we can watch games live via the likes of Facebook and YouTube. Freesports and the Eurosports Player have also shown women’s matches in the recent past, and the availability of streamed action is sure to carry on increasing.

An increase in online sports betting has also encouraged many fans to seek out new sports to wager on. With more odds, markets and opportunities to bet than before, women’s snooker is becoming more popular. The best sports betting sites and guides to online sports betting in 2022 include big-name sites like 22Bet, Dafabet and Betwinner as all offering snooker odds and welcome bonuses that make it easier to get started with bonus funds or money back on the first bet if it loses.

The governing bodies have been aware for some time that Asian players are particularly keen on snooker, which has led to them taking more women’s events there in the last few years. This included the Women’s World Championships going to Singapore in 2017, in a break from its usual British venue. This vision could perhaps help to explain why so many of the new generation of female stars are Asian.

The future of women’s snooker looks bright, and we should see more new stars emerge in the next few years to challenge the top players.
