The weekend of 20th and 21st of February is a really big weekend for amateur snooker tournaments
I know the Welsh Open is played to a conclusion, but just look at what’s going on in the amateur world.
The English Amateur Championship is getting really interesting with the Northern final at Qs Sports Bar in Manchester and the Southern final at Frames Sports Bar in London.
This is the most important event in the EASB calendar and this year is the 100th anniversary of the oldest amateur snooker competition in the World. It’s roll of honour reads like a who’s who of snooker nobility.
The Winner of this event will receive an EASB scholarship; this will include free entry into selected events throughout the season and will also represent England in the World and European Championships along with the top ranked player in the English Ranking Series. Any further places allocated by the IBSF or EBSA will be offered first to the English Amateur Runner-Up.
On Sunday, as well as the second day of the Snooker backer classic, there is the Last 16 of the Under 14s Championship at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds. The finals weekend will be 18th June.
This competition hopes to find the most talented under 14 year old snooker player in the country.
All in all pretty hectic and just goes to show that there is a lot of good quality amateur snooker being played these days.
If you know of any open competitions that are not on our calendar, please get in touch. We will be only too happy to include them.
