Liam Davies, the 15 year-old from Wales, has won the European 2022 Under 18s title at the EBSA Championships in Albania.

Davies beat Leone Crowley (16) of Ireland 4-1 in the final. Crowley had a very impressive run himself including beating the current European Under 18 Champion, Ben Mertens, in the semi-final.

After topping his group with 3 straight wins, Davies went on to what looked like almost a stroll to the final which included a semi-final victory over Anton Kazakov of Ukraine.

Kazokov beat Davies in their semi-final clash in the WSF Open earlier this year – an event which saw him claim a place on the WST for the next 2 seasons.

Many thought that as a ‘pro-in-waiting’, Kazakov shouldn’t have been playing in this event. An argument which will no doubt continue until EBSA change their rules to prevent it.

Davies is a regular in the same club as Mark Williams and Jackson Page and is a devotee of SightRight. Lee Walker is a Sightright coach who coaches both Williams and Davies.

Mastermind of SightRight, Steve Feeney, said on Twitter –

No time to rest now for Liam though as he plays his Under 21s last 32 match this morning before taking part in the new Under 16s event which is played to a finish today. He then moves on to the “Men’s” event on Monday.

Both the Under 21s and the Men’s events carry a place on the WST for the winner.

Even if he doesn’t make it onto the professional ranks this time, there’s sure to be a bright future for this talented lad from Tredegar
