Star of the show without doubt was young Vladislav Gradinari – making history as the youngest ever player to win a televised ranking event match.

Another youngster, Robbie McGuigan, also impressed with a win over professional player Hammad Miah and there were wins for ex-pros Daniel Wells and Rory McCleod.

The action continues today from 1pm UK time and Welsh youngster Riley Powell will face Kyren Wilson to start the proceedings.

There are 8 other amateurs involved today including Michael Holt who won the event in 2020. Holt was speaking to Phil Haigh from the Metro recently.

Round 1 will conclude today and the event will finish on Saturday evening.
