The match was held this week on Tuesday at Woking Snooker Centre in Surrey as members saw top quality amateur players on show.
Mears is the new standard-bearer of Woking Snooker Centre playing for one of the three Woking league teams in the Byfleet League, and travels all over the country playing and promoting snooker and billiards in other events.
His opponent, however, Sean Harvey, a former QSchool participant, who has beaten the likes of good professionals such as Sanderson Lam got the better of Mears in a best of five shootout which ended 3 – 2 to Harvey.
The Byfleet League report wrote:
“Due to time restraints both finalists agreed to play a best of 5 frame final. It was streamed live and shown on Woking Snooker Centre’s facebook page. As expected the standard was high despite few big breaks. Both players are superb at all aspects of the game and the safety play was absorbing to watch. SEAN got the better of a close first frame, Ryan leveled with the aid of a 40 break. A superb 63 break by Sean decided the 3rd frame before Ryan leveled again in frame 4. SEAN won the decider with some really clutch pots at vital times reducing RYAN to just two points.”
The standard was enthralling as it was recorded and streamed on the new Woking Snooker Centre webcam that has been streaming a wide range of events since it was rigged up by Club Manager Peter Ruddick only a few weeks ago.
So far, Woking Snooker Centre has streamed matches of the Cuestars Gold final held last weekend, the Woking Saturday handicap finals and the Byfleet Championship final.
