Woking Snooker Centre was buzzing over the Halloween weekend as the London and Home Counties Snooker group set foot in the Surrey-based club for the first time.
It hasn’t been since a Cuestars event in 2016 that Woking has seen a buzz of at least 16 tables in operation and the clacking of snooker balls and top amateurs competing for cash prizes and trophies.
The LHC tournament saw the Byfleet League team of Ryan Mears, and four others, after making himself available to play in the event, win the Team Event for the ninth time and the fourth in five years.
Mears, a winner of two of the Woking Handicap tournaments, first introduced to the club in July, also scooped the Singles event of the LHC making it a double victory for Team Woking and Byfleet.
The Chairman of the Byfleet League, Kelvin Jones, said on Facebook after the event about the hospitality of Woking Snooker Centre:
Thanks to the efforts of Manager PETER RUDDICK and the MASON family WOKING SNOOKER CENTRE is now a superb venue for tournaments and with three teams in the league, there is a real buzz and excitement about the place.
Other tournaments are already in the pipeline and anyone local looking to join a club should pop in and check it out.
Coach BRIAN COX has started a Junior Coaching Club and can also be booked for one to one sessions for all aged players of all abilities.
Congratulations once again to the team and to RYAN. A fantastic achievement and solely down to them.
The glowing comments come as Peter Ruddick has been making lots of changes to the club, both big and small, including –
- Installing a fresh new banner on the front of the building.
- Introducing a new car parking sign outside.
- Consistently re-clothing the tables making them fit for tournament play.
- Installing LED lighting on Table 1, the Match table.
- And more
In December, Cuestars will return to Woking with co-sponsors SnookerZone.co.uk and Hoff Aviation sponsoring the event.
