The year 2020 has moved dramatically, mostly through the pandemic. There is absolutely not one person or activity that has not been affected by the events of the year. Sports were no different, with several competitions postponed and subsequent ones are taking place behind closed doors. This inadvertently affected gambling. Gambling activities like snooker betting, football betting, etc., were affected throughout that period.
The 2020 World Snooker Championship was initially scheduled to take place from the 18th of April to the 4th of May, 2020. It was, however, rescheduled and later took place from the 31 of July to the 16th of August, 2020, at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England. The final was played between Englishmen Ronnie O’Sullivan and Kyren Wilson. O’Sullivan came out victorious to claim his sixth World Championship and a record twentieth Triple Crown Series.
Snooker is very much a loved sport in the United Kingdom, and this is not a mistake. The sport has its prestigious roots in the UK. It was brought to the world through British army officers stationed in India in the nineteenth century. It grew in popularity in the UK, and by 1927, global tournaments were taking place. The renowned Joe Davis facilitated a lot of the growth of the sport. Not only was he instrumental to the development of the sport, but he is still regarded as the most dominant player in the sport. The Englishman won 15 World Snooker Championships from the 1920s to the 1950s and remained unbeaten all through.
This trend of dominance by the United Kingdom is not gone. Amongst the current top ten rated players in the world, just two players are not from the United Kingdom. This is the similar situation in the top hundred as well. The UK loves the sport so much that it has made it theirs. Out of the eleven players that have ever completed a career Triple Crown, only Neil Robertson is not from the United Kingdom.
This dominance and love for the sport flow into the people’s way of life, with snooker betting being a big deal. Looking forward to the forthcoming tournaments is what is on every gambler’s mind. And this is especially the tournaments in 2021. With the somewhat return to a normal way of life in the world, there is a lot to look forward to. Odds for tournaments in the next year are already available on top betting sites. The schedule for snooker tournaments has been planned already. The World Snooker Championship is slated for the 17th April to the 3rd of May, 2021, at the Crucible. At the same time, The Masters and German Masters will be the tournaments to kick off the year in early and late January, respectively.
The odds for the tournaments are mainly based on the rankings of the players and their history in these tournaments. Because of these, Judd Trump being number 1 has the lowest odds to win both The Masters and the World Snooker Championship. Regular names with the lowest odds as well include Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby, Kyren Wilson, Neil Robertson, etc. One thing is for sure; the games will be thrilling to watch as usual.
