It was all happening again yesterday as 5 of the top 16 seeds, Barry Hawkins, Jack Lisowski, Ding Junhui, Mark Allen and Stuart Bingham, crash out.

Ding has of course been moved down the rankings after the UK but was seeded 10 for this event. His loss yesterday to 114 seed Zhang Anda was the biggest shock.

Just like the UK Championship last week, the tournament is now wide open.

After the qualifying round was completed yesterday, 2 Round 1 matches were played. 20 more will follow today and the round will finish tomorrow.

Shaun Murphy almost made the headlines again as he needed to come back from 3-1 down to beat Ng On Yee. Murphy looked every inch the loser but finished off the match with a break of 130! He has a day off today to hopefully rest his injury enough to play Li Hang tomorrow. Murphy is clearly struggling at the moment.

In other results –

Ronnie O’Sullivan beat Dominic Dale 4-2 and is back in action later today against amateur Michael Georgiou.
Defending Champion Mark Selby beat Sean Maddocks 4-1 and plays Oliver Lines this afternoon.

A few bets to consider?

Pick of the first batch of matches has to be Suny Akani versus Stephen Maguire. Maguire didn’t have it all his own way yesterday, only coming through in the decider. This is no easy match either and Betway have him at 11/20 to win. I think akani at 6/4 might be worth considering.

Chris Wakelin is priced at 11/4 to beat Anthony McGill and Joe Perry might well be able to turn over Luca Brecel who was beaten in the UK final on Sunday night. Perry is priced at 7/4.

Another good looking bet is Steven Hallworth at 13/10 to beat Scott Donaldson.
