Well Friday night sure was one to remember!
There were three events going on, all available to watch in one way or another.
Thankfully, ITV had decided to put football on instead of Corrie, so there was no argument there over watching snooker. “Anything’s better than football”
The big one of course was the Players Championship semi-final between Judd Trump and Ronnie O’Sullivan. And what a match that was! Judd really did push Ronnie but he had to be at his best to do so. It went all the way to the eleventh frame decider but as Ronnie pointed out later, he’s “pretty decent at kinda closing out matches”. He might well not have got that final chance but for Judd getting a seemingly bad contact to let Ronnie in. But what a finish!
With that match on the TV, there was admittedly maybe only half an eye split between the tablet and the phone.
On my tablet, via YouTube, was a quarter final of the World Seniors event in Scunthorpe. Patrick Wallace was facing Rhydian Richards in the best of 5 which didn’t look from the off that it was going to end up in a black ball shootout decider. Wallace set off with an 80 break and despite Richards claiming a frame to make it 2-1, Jonathan Bagley was probably aware of who his opponent will be in the semi-final.
You can see all the World Seniors matches from this event on the Snooker Legends YouTube page.
The second semi final of the inaugural WSF Championship was between Kacper Filipiak and Luo Honghao and the excellent live streaming was being watched on my phone.
Filipiak was hoping to make it an all Polish final after Adam Stefanow’s success earlier. But the Chinese teenager, Honghao, managed to win the decider with the help of a fluke on the last red. Both players looked a bit disappointed that the match had to finish that way.
Today we have the second semi in the Players Championship, the World seniors semi finals and finals and the final of the WSF Championship.
Can we get anything like the drama of yesterday?
