We haven’t even come down from the heady heights of the UK Championship semi-finals and final yet and already we are into the Scottish Open.

Or should we say, back into the Scottish Open with some of the opening round matches already having been played.

The top 16 seeds have had their matches held over to the main venue, which in itself isn’t quite as you would expect as it’s being played in Llandudno!

The so-called qualifying round was started at the end of September and following this after the top 16 seeds have played their qualifiers, the “first round” can begin. Just a bit too confusing in my opinion

The two finalists in the UK Championshipship yesterday produced a scintillating display of snooker. However, the winner Zhao Xintong will not feature as he lost his opening round match to Lei Peifan. Runner-up Luca Brecel plays Joe Perry later this week.

The 3 favourites for this event on Betway are Judd Trump 7/2, Mark Selby 9/2 and Ronnie O’Sullivan 11/2. A couple of players who would have been amongst the favourites are Neil Robertson and Mark Williams who have withdrawn from the event.

“Robertson has withdrawn for medical reasons having been diagnosed with Pulsatile Tinnitus. He has been replaced in the draw by Bai Langning, who will face Ben Hancorn in the first round on Monday evening in Llandudno.

Williams has withdrawn for personal reasons and been replaced by James Cahill, who will be up against Ben Woollaston in the first round on Monday morning.”

Scottish Snooker were awarded two wildcards for this event, as are all the home NGBs for the Home Nations events.

The two nominees are Amaan Iqbal and Liam Graham.

Amaan Igbal is amongst the first up and he faces Noppon Saengkham. Later on today Liam Graham plays Michael Holt.

Can the amateurs produce any more upsets like they did in the UK Championships?
