Details have been announced for entry to World Snooker’s Q School 2018 – with some notable changes
The entry fee has been increased from £600 to £1000. Cynics will say this is because of the expected increase in entries in order to get on the Challenge Tour.
Q School will now be held at Meadowside, Burton on Trent, not Preston Guild Hall.
There will be 3 events – not 2 as recently, but with 4 qualifiers per event there are still 12 tour cards on offer
There will be no Order of Merit to qualify for tour cards. Instead the top 64, other than the 12 main tour qualifiers, will qualify for the Challenge Tour where more cards will be on offer (details still to be announced). The first announcement of the Challenge Tour back in April 2017 seemed to suggest that everyone who entered Q School would be able to play on the tour. There was some doubt that such a tour could cope with potentially massive numbers, so the limit of 64 does seem to be a good starting point.
Closing date is 12 noon on Wednesday 28 March and the first event starts on Monday 14 May.
