From Rhys –
I first picked up a snooker cue two years ago as me and my mate thought it would be fun.
After six months of just playing each other (terribly) we decided to become members of the club and join the league.
Being an avid sportsman (Rugby, Cricket, Golf) I took the matches seriously but never expected to win anything. Alas, I lost every game 3-0 (except the one against my mate!) but really enjoyed myself and always looked forward to Monday evenings.
Come next season I decided to take things more seriously and started to practice once a week, thinking to myself with a bit of practice in addition to playing the matches I should start to see some improvement.
Frustratingly, nothing really changed. My Monday night routine consisted of rocking up, playing terribly, losing 3-0 and going home annoyed.
Being a super competitive person this started to no longer be enjoyable, especially because I felt like I was (most of the time) pushing the cue through in a straight line, only to regularly miss by a wide margin.
Speaking about my frustrations to Lee, we discussed it’s likely the case I’m simply lining the shot up incorrectly and setting myself up for fail before I’ve begun.
After only one SightRight lesson this became blatantly evident and a few small adjustments later, my accuracy improved tenfold. Fast forward a couple of months, I’m feeling much more confident on the shot, putting together larger breaks and winning matches- looking forward to Monday evenings again!
Going forward, I plan to have a SightRight lesson once/ month and have set myself the goal of making a 30+ break next season with a view to enter a competition this time next year.
