As Fabian is so young we started off at the beginning of the White to Black program and to achieve his white certificate he needed to shown a good understanding of the game, be able to set a frame up, understand the various equipment used on a snooker table and chalk his cue.
He made quick work of the White level and was over the moon to receive his White ball certificate and soon we made a start on ‘Red’ which is far more challenging so we gave ourselves a good 4-5 sessions to complete that one.
The Red level includes the white ball up and down the spots, rest play into each of the 4 corner pockets, 6 reds over the pockets and 4 white balls into the facing pockets from the D.
As expected Fabian duly passed with flying colours!
“Well done young man and I’m looking forward to making a solid start on ‘yellow’ soon!”
And what does Fabian say?
Coaching with Lee is very fun and I’m learning a lot with him. I am very happy to now get my red ball certificate and I’m very excited about going through all the colour certificates.
Snooker is my favourite sport and my wish is to be a professional snooker player and one day and to play Ronnie O’Sullivan.
The excitement is off the chart
As part of my approach to coaching I always encourage my students to test out their new found talents in tournament play, and 6 year old Fabian from Tunbridge Wells in Kent is no exception.
Fabian is literally counting down the days before he competes in his first tournament this Sunday (April 10th 2022) – the Kent County Billiards & Snooker Association (KCBSA) Under 16s Cup at Welling Snooker Club.
Whilst Fabian is still very young at 6 years old, I believe it’s important to get used to the tournament environment and conditions at any age. There is likely to be a small field on the day as unfortunately snooker at a junior level in Kent has a poor uptake, even though it’s a great chance for youngsters to get a feel for competition play.

With his new Tiger cue (Tiger Cues Warrington) at the ready and a very smart waistcoat suit complete with bow tie, he certainly looks the part and I wish him well in Sunday’s tournament.
We’ve been working well on the WPBSA’s White to Black programme, he’s currently on the Yellow ball challenges, which will all set him in good stead for the challenge ahead. Go get em Fabian!
