The names start to fall as pressure begins to build

It may be early in the 2nd event and there is still another event to go, but the pressure to qualify is increasing.

Just to play at Q School is enough for some, but for others it means much more. Some of the relegated pros might be wondering how they are going to make a living if they don’t qualify. It may not look like they do when you look at their earnings – but that’s just prize money. They could be getting sponsorship, endorsements, exhibitions… which could lessen or even stop if they don’t make it back onto the main tour.

Thanks to Dave Lewis at Pro-Am Snooker UK there is an ever increasing pro-am scene in England where money can be earned. Not only that but top quality opposition will be keeping players sharp in readiness for their next attempt to get (back) onto the main tour.

Yesterday saw two of the losing finalists from Event 1 fall in their first match of Event 2.

Ian Burns and Bai Langnin were beaten by Ross Valance and Sydney Wilson respectively.

Relegated pros Billy Joe Castle, Daniel Wells and Si Jiahui were also beaten and will no doubt be getting back to the practice table to prepare for Event 3.

The only female player at Q School this year is Rebecca Kenna. After her very creditable win in the first round she came up short against Phil O’Kane. Kenna took the first frame but O’Kane rallied and ran out a 4-1 winner.

There was a bit of disappointment for youngster Stan Moody as he was beaten 4-0 by Duane Jones. But to be fair, Jones could be a match for anyone at Q School.

I hope I don’t jinx him with this, but I do feel Robbie McGuigan could go deep in this event.
