Favourite falls at the penultimate hurdle before the home straight.

In the big match of the day, Peter Lines beat Event 1 favourite Michael White 4-0. Lines now goes into “Event 1 Judgement Day” to face Lee Shanker who beat Alex Taubman 4-1 to earn the privilege.

The winner of that match will face either David Lilley or Ian Burns to take one of four tour cards on offer in Event 1.

Lilley and Burns are both looking to bounce straight back to the main tour after losing their cards at the end of the last campaign.

The second of the four cards on offer will be contested between Fraser Patrick, Lei Peifan, James Cahill and Bai Langning. All four are looking to make an immediate return to the main tour.

The next card will go to either Oliver Brown, Michael Georgiou, Jackson Page or Sean Harvey. Only Page was on the main tour last season.

The final card will go to either Mitchell Mann, Duane Jones, Yuan Sijun or Sydney Wilson. Wilson being the only one of the four who wasn’t on the main tour last season.

With 11 of the last 16 being “relegated pros”, for want of a term, it begs the question again about whether Q School is the right format for selecting players for the next two seasons.
