The Battle of the Boltonians turned into more of a massacre!
Veteran Tony Knowles provided probably the biggest upset of the day, if not the event, with a 4-0 whitewash of ex-pro Craig Steadman. This match would possibly have had a very good audience if it could have been streamed.
Birthday boy Stuart Watson won through on a decider against relegated pro Barry Pinches whilst some of the other relegated pros such as Burns, Cahill, Sargeant and Lilley had much easier passages into Round 3.
Watson faces Cahill in Round 3 this evening and Burns plays Sargeant this afternoon.
Luke Pinches, the son of Barry, will be flying the family flag this afternoon in his match against Alex Taubman of Wales.
The two Polish lads, Baranowski and Kowalski fell foul of a positive Covid test and association rules to miss out on this event but should be ok for Event 2.
There will be 16 more Round 2 matches today and then the first 16 matches of Round 3.
It’s definitely getting very interesting as some of the 64 seeded players start to face each other.
