Some 96 amateur snooker players take their place in the ManBetX Gibraltar Open this week when World Snooker open up entries to amateurs.

This is the second of this type event this season, the first being the Paul Hunter Classic (PHC) back in August 2017.

Amateurs will be looking for a good run in this event to add to their progress in the PHC.

An Order of Merit is compiled over the two events and the top 8 players qualify for the European Billiards and Snooker Association (EBSA) play offs at the end of the season at the English Institute of Sport at the end of the World Championship Qualifiers. The play-offs will take place using the same table set up.

Two places for the professional tour are on offer so there is plenty to play for. Gerard Green and Peter Lines were last year’s winners.

Note: Harvey Chandler has already secured his place on next season’s tour by virtue of his success at the European Championships recently.

With the advent of the Challenge Tour next season, it remains to be seen if this EBSA qualifying route will continue.
