World Snooker have announced details of entry for the 2020 BetVictor Gibraltar Open
Entry for all amateur players is now available with no entry fee.
After removing entry fees to World Snooker events for professionals, it did seem strange that amateurs were still being charged for this one.
This is the fourth and final event in the new BetVictor Series and the amateur stages of tournament will be on March 11-12 (subject to the number of entries), followed by the last 128 from March 13-15, with total prize money of £251,000.
The venue has still to be confirmed but the details could well depend on just how many amateur entries there actually are.

Should a Pro-Am be included in the Main Tour?
Following the changes to the Paul Hunter Classic, this event is now the last remaining “Pro-Am” on the World Snooker Tour.
Last season many of the entries were criticised for treating this as a bit of a knees-up and not taking the event seriously. With no entry fee will this be repeated?
It’s also the final event of the BetVictor Series and with the £150,000 bonus potentially still to play for, those still in the hunt will definitely be taking it seriously.
The series also includes the controversial Shoot Out in a hope that more professionals will enter. Last season was a bit of a disaster of that front!
For me though, the way to make these events look more like proper events rather than “circus like”, would be to have the same format as the usual ranking events.
Closing date for entries is 12 noon on Wednesday 26 February 2020.
